International activities

The Danish Zoonosis Centre participate in a number of international activities.

  • ARBAO II
  • Cost 920
  • Med-Vet-Net
  • Nordic collaboration on Zoonoses
  • TRAINAU
  • WHO Global Salm-Surv

ARBAO II - Antibiotic resistance in bacteria of animal origin
ARBAO II is a European network of national veterinary reference laboratories, aimed at improving the quality of antimicrobial resistance monitoring data from food animals. The focus is on four main areas

  • Harmonising susceptibility testing procedures of bacteria from food animals
  • Collecting and evaluating the susceptibility data
  • Develope an external quality assurance system covering all national veterinary reference laboratories in the EU-countries
  • Making comparable results available for the public and decision-makers

Cost920
Cost920 is a Co-ordinated Food Chain Approach to Foodborne Zoonoses. The network has participants from all European countries.
The main objective of the Action is to better control foodborne zoonotic infections with focus on:

  • Development and harmonisation of diagnostic and typing methods for the major zoonotic foodborne pathogens. The task is to improve the comparability of the surveillance data along the foodchain and between European countries and regions
  • Further development of an early warning and alert surveillance system for potential emerging pathogens throughout Europe and along the whole foodchain
  • Aplying a quantitative risk assessment to the foodchain where critical intervention points and areas requiring further surveillance and/or research can be identified
  • Generating a greater understanding of the mechanisms of survival of zoonotic pathogens along the foodchain. Hence, this will aid risk assessment

MED-VET-NET
A European network of veterinary, medical and food science institutes in the field of food safety. The institutes have national reference laboratorie-based responsibility for the prevention and control of zoonoses. The goal is to improve and integrate the research, taking into account the public health concerns of consumers and other stakeholders throughout the food chain.

Nordic collaboration on zoonoses
The Danish Zoonosis centre participates in an annual Nordic Zoonoses meeting where experiences regarding zoonoses surveillance are exchanged. Further, the Centre participates in an annual meeting regarding the national surveillance programs on antibiotic resistance in the Nordic countries, where results and experiences from the programmes are exchanged.
